Applying Social Media to Your Brand

Everyone is all atwitter (pun intended) about social media lately. If you own an online store or are a solopreneur of any variety, the reason is simple: free marketing.

I don’t know about your marketing budget, but here at G2 HQ, we believe in guerrilla marketing tactics, the cheaper the better. To this end, we have made forays into Facebook with our “Bag That Plastic” product line (see here) and into Twitter (follow us here).

But what if you just aren’t sure what all this new stuff is about? A great learning resource is Slideshare. Experts and professionals of all stripes post their presentations — the same ones other people pay to see — free for viewing online. Just type “Facebook” or “Twitter” or even “Personal Brand” into the search box, and ta da! Slideshare will provide you with a wealth of presentations you can browse through. Nifty.

Collaborating Remotely

Here at G2 HQ, we believe in collaboration. Since we can’t always do that in person, whether due to scheduling conflicts or being in different cities, we find tools to help us out.

One of our favorites is Basecamp from 37Signals. From posting content, to online whiteboards (called “writeboards”), there is a lot to love about this all-in-one environment. There are both free and paid versions depending on your needs. If you manage a team, definitely check these guys out.

Another great service, coincidentally also from 37Signals, is HighRise. This one is for managing contacts, following leads and other sales-y type of stuff. When sales is a team effort, this is a great way to check in to see who is following up on what.

New Video: Zazzle University

Zazzle.com is fantastic at shopkeeper outreach. One component of this effort is their Zazzle University channel at YouTube, where they post videos on everything from building stores to building sales. In this latest two-part release, they explain the three primary revenue streams. Enjoy. -Kristian
